Purple basil (Ocimum basilicum var. Ocimum basilicum is an annual herb probably native to Iran and India but now grown all over the world. It is very popular in French and Italian cuisine and has a history of medicinal use because of its sedative and antispasmodic properties. It is an excellent aid to digestion and beneficial for nervous disorders, headaches, migraine, vertigo, and colic in children.
