NOT FOR POSTCARD USE Fractal geometry. A computer graphics image, entitled Owlman from Space, generated from a Newtonian polynomial solving equation. The solution set of this equation is plotted using the real and imaginary parts as coordinates. The colour of each point depends upon its behaviour under a series of simple repeated mathematical operations or mappings. The patterns are infinitely complicated, appearing qualitatively the same on whatever scale they are viewed. The study of such "chaotic" behaviour is now used to model real-world processes.
