Willy Burgdorfer, American medical entomologist. Willy Burgdorfer is famous for discovering the bacterial pathogen that causes Lyme disease, a spirochete now named Borrelia burgdorferi. He also identified the cause of Rocky Mountain tick fever. He is an international leader in researching interactions between animal and human disease agents and the organisms that transmit them, and has won numerous awards for his work.
