Model of aggregation produced from chaos theory. This is a computer-generated image showing the apparently random clumping of particles within a fluid suspension. Much research has discovered, however, that such aggregations appear to be ruled by chaos theory (related to fractal geometry). Each small part of the structure seems to reflect the shape of larger parts. In a real suspension, aggregations form due to the collision of tiny particles whose movement is governed by collisions (Brownian Motion). Van der Waal's forces between colliding particles may bind them together, and an irreversible aggregation may start.
