Spider silk belt. Belt made entirely out of woven spider silk produced by genetically modified plants. Spider genes responsible for the production of silk proteins are inserted into the genes of plants to produce these 'spider plants'. This makes the plants produce the proteins and allows for their mass production. Fibres produced from these proteins are extremely strong and could have many other uses including could be used in various ways including the manufacture of bulletproof vests, biomaterials for the aerospace industry, and strings for tennis rackets. Photographed at the University of Wyoming, USA.
