Lesser Goldfinch (Carduelis psaltria), Madera Canyon, Arizona. This bird is 4 to 4.5 inches long and about 0.3 ounces in weight, the smallest of the North American goldfinches. The upperparts of immature and female Lesser Goldfinches are more or less grayish olive-green; their underparts are yellowish, and buffier in immatures. They have a narrow strip of white on the wings and little or no white on the tail. The Lesser Goldfinch ranges from southwestern Washington to Venezuela and Peru.
