Calcite crystals. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of crystals of calcite a form of calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate occurs naturally in many rocks, such as limestone and chalk. It has a multitude of different industrial uses and is the most common active ingredient in antacid tablets. Magnification: x4000 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
