Caption

Pleasing Fungus Beetle (Cypherotylus asperus), Gibbifer californicus, feasting on Bird's Nest Fungus, in the genus Mycocalia. Only one species of this beetle genus occurs in North America, in the southwestern United States. Adults and larvae feed on a wide variety of wood rotting fungi. Its large larvae are covered with long scoli and graze the surface of fungi on dead wood.
