Leaf cell junction. Transmission electron microgr- aph (TEM) of a section through two leaf cells at their junction. Their cell walls run from top centre to lower left. A nucleus is seen at lower right. These cells produce sugar using sunlight (photosynthesis) in their chloroplasts (dark grey, upper left & right). Starch granules (pale ovals) can be seen in the chloroplast at upper left. Magnification: x18,700 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
