Light micrograph of cells in the epidermis of an iris petal. The many tiny particles visible within the cytoplasm of each cell are organelles known as plastids. The plastids and cytoplasm obtain their reddish-purple colour from anthocyanin pigments. Magnification: x160 at 35mm size.
