Leg of an elderly female patient, showing an area where squamous cell carcinoma (skin cancer) was excised (removed) five days before. This is a local wide excision to prevent the cancer from spreading. This second most common type of skin cancer affects the upper squamous cells of the skin, but tumours may spread (metastasise). It is commonly caused by sun damage.
