Red chromoplasts. Coloured light micrograph (LM) of the red chromoplasts of a plant (Begonia sp.). Chromoplasts are plastids, which are small particles in a plant cell's cytoplasm. They contain pigments called carotenoids, which are red, yellow and orange in colour. The number of chromoplasts in a plant affects its colour and so chromoplasts are plant specific.
