Sutured wound on the hand in a 77 year old female patient, eight days after surgery to treat carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome results from pressure on a nerve which passes into the hand via a gap (the carpal tunnel); impulses from the blocked nerve cause numbness, muscle weakness, and pain in the fingers. Surgery involves cutting the ligament in the hand which traps the nerve.
