Caption

Smoke from Indonesian fires, satellite image. Smoke from fires burning in Indonesia, in Sumatra and Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo. The smoke triggered air quality alerts and health warnings. The fires are typically started by farmers burning off agricultural and logging debris to clear the way for crops and livestock. This image was obtained on 15 September 2019, with the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor on NASA's Terra satellite.
