Caption

Wildfire smoke over Russia, satellite image. Plumes of smoke (centre right) from extensive wildfires burning in the regions of Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, and Buryatia, in Russia. The smoke was carried towards the south-west, to the centre of the image, where it mixed with a storm system (swirling clouds). The smoke affected air quality in cities across the region. This image was obtained on 21 July 2019, by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi NPP satellite.
