Side view of a straw underwing moth (Thalpophila matura) resting on a branch in a garden habitat. The flight period is July and August with only a single brood each year. This species is found across the UK and is found on grasslands and open moor. It is a member of the Noctuidae family. The larval food plants are various grasses. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in August.
