Caption

Close-up view of a pond skater (Gerris lacustris) resting on duck weed in a riverbank habitat. Pond Skaters belong to the order Hemiptera and have long legs and water repellent feet to move across the water using the surface tension. They are quickly attracted to movement on surface, allowing them to feed on other insects that have fallen into the water. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in September.
