Light microscope footage of a Diaphoropodon sp. amoeba, showing the huge filopodial network in timelapse. The original capturing time was about 5 min. Diaphoropodon is a testate amoeba, the test is ovoid or pear-shaped, membranous, flexible and composed of organic material, sometimes covered with many small particles. Diaphoropodon moves with filopodia, these pseudopodia are slender and tapering. In this clip the focus is mainly on the huge filopodial network with a large number of filopodia extending in all directions and often branching. The focus changes in the middle of the clip to show the test. The amoeba was found in a small freshwater brook habitat. Microscopic contrast method used: differential interference contrast. Captured field width: 0.8mm.
