Hadron therapy equipment. This type of radiotherapy uses a combination of beams of protons, neutrons and heavy particles, to kill cancer tissue. This is different from normal radiotherapy, which uses high-energy photon beams (such as gamma rays or X-rays). Hadron therapy is sometimes referred to as particle therapy. Types of hadron therapy include proton therapy, fast neutron therapy, and heavy ion therapy. Photographed in 2005, in the Nuclear Problems Laboratory, Dubna, in Russia's Moscow region.
