CICATRIZATION, DRAWING Healing (3 stages). Illustration of healing (3 stages): - Following the vascular spasm which initially serves to reduce bleeding from the wound, blood platelets clump together with red blood cells on the surface of the wound. Together they harden to form a plug which obstructs the wound's opening (haemostatic plug). Fibrin then joins with the clumped together red blood cells and platelets to reinforce the haemostatic plug. The plug hardens, dries and evacuates blood serum from the surface of the wound. A scab forms and reconstruction of the missing tegumentary tissue begins.
