BLOOD CIRCULATION, ILLUSTRATION The contractions of the cardiac muscle generate the blood circulation in the body. From the heart, about half blood volume goes into the body through the arteries to irrigate the different organs then, disoxygenated, it goes back at the heart through the veins ( systemic circulation ). The other half of the blood volume is sent in the lungs to be reoxygenated ( pulmonary circulation ). Here it is a ancient colorized engraving.
