A modified retrovirus, unable to reproduce and carrying a suicide gene, is introduced into a cancerous tumor, infecting several cancer cells. A drug is injected into the blood, becoming toxic in the environment of the retrovirus-treated tumor and destroying both the retrovirus and the nearby cancer cells.
