Caption

Animation of a SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus binding to a target cell (bottom). This virus is the cause of the new disease COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 is an RNA virus that uses protein spikes to gain entry to host cells. It binds to the cell's ACE2 surface protein, which causes the cell to bring the virus inside. Once inside the cell, it uses the cell's machinery to make more copies of the virus.
