Velvet-purple coronet hummingbird (Boissonneaua jardini) feeding from a Cavendishia flower. This bird inhabits humid tropical forests on the western slopes of the Andes, in Colombia and Ecuador. Hummingbirds feed largely on insects, but they visit nectar-rich flowers for the high concentration of sugars their nectar contains, which provides a good source of energy. Filmed near Mindo, Ecuador.
