Florida manatee swimming. Manatees (Trichechus manatus latirostris) are herbivorous aquatic mammals that inhabit shallow coastal waters and estuaries in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic Ocean and in the Gulf of Mexico. They are a subspecies of the West Indian manatee. Its population is in decline due to the threat of recreational watercraft. Photographed in Crystal River, Florida, USA.
