Worker in a laboratory at the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of Kazan Federal University, in Kazan, Russia, that is synthesising gold nanoparticles for use in antibody tests for the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. The gold nanoparticles are used to tag any antibodies found for easier detection. SARS-CoV-2 causes a respiratory infection (Covid-19) that can lead to fatal pneumonia. The virus emerged in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and spread worldwide infecting millions of people and causing hundreds of thousands of deaths. Photographed on 23rd June 2020.
