Neisseria bacterium. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacterium. This Gram-negative bacterium causes the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhoea. Symptoms include a urethral or vaginal discharge, and pain on passing urine. However, the majority of infected women develop no symptoms. Gonorrhoea is treated with antibiotics. Magnification: x30,000 at 35mm size.
