Brachyspira pilosicoli bacteria. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of Brachyspira pilosicoli bacteria, cause of colonic infections in humans and some domestic animals. These spiral-shaped (spirochaete) bacteria lack a rigid cell wall and move by flexion of the cell. Infections result in diarrhoea and wasting, although it is not fatal. Magnification: x8200 at 6x6cm size.
