The Gram-positive bacteria are inhaled or contracted by direct contact with an infected person. It produces a toxin that causes a sore throat, breathing difficulties and fever. It may also lead to heart damage, and can be fatal. Antibiotic drugs can treat the disease, and it is rare in the developed world. Magnification: x20,000 at 6x4.5cm size.
