Light micrograph of a section through human heart tissue showing interstitial myocarditis. This condition refers to inflammation of the heart characterised by infiltration of the interstitial tissues by inflammatory cells, histiocytes and the formation of granulomas. Myocarditis is most often due to a viral infection. Other causes include bacterial infections, certain medications, toxins and autoimmune disorders.
