This condition refers to inflammation of the heart characterised by infiltration of the interstitial tissues by inflammatory cells, histiocytes and the formation of granulomas. Myocarditis is most often due to a viral infection. Other causes include bacterial infections, certain medications, toxins and autoimmune disorders.
