Caption

Timelapse footage of a developing cumulonimbus cloud. Powerful convection carries moist air upwards where it condenses into billowing cloud. When it hits the tropopause it can't rise further as the air around it starts warming with height, so it flattens out below this layer, forming a characteristic anvil shape. Cumulonimbus clouds are associated with heavy rain and thunderstorms. Filmed in Palau.
