Caption

Animation of a Stegosaurus dinosaur walking across a plain. Stegosaurus was a large herbivorous dinosaur that inhabited what is now the western United States in the late Jurassic period, from 155-145 million years ago. It is known for its rows of bony plates on its back, thought to have been used in display and for thermoregulation. The set of spikes on its tail are thought to have been used in defence from predators, and are known as a thagomizer (after the late Thag Simmons).
