Mycoplasma bacteria. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through a group of Mycoplasma sp. bacteria (orange) surrounding an infected cell (green). Mycoplasmas lack a true cell wall and so can vary considerably in shape. They are pathogens and parasites. M. pneumoniae, for example, causes a type of pneumonia in humans. Magnification unknown.
