False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the tangled hyphae (filaments) which form the mycelium (vegetative body) of the fungus Drechslera sp.. Species of this genus are to be found on the seeds of cereals and grasses. Many are pathogenic, causing such diseases as seedling blight, net blotch and leaf-stripe in barley.
