Rocket engines. View of the nozzles of rocket engines on the first stage of a Russian Proton-M launcher. The Proton-M has six RD-253 first-stage engines developing a total of 10.5 MN (mega-newtons) of thrust. He rocket has a payload capacity of 22 tonnes to low-earth orbit or 3.5 tonnes to geostationary orbit with the Briz upper stage. Photographed at the Baikonur space centre in Kazkhstan in 2007.
