Grey mould. Light micrograph of spores masses of grey mould, Botrytis cinerea. This fungus is also called botrytis rot. It is the cause of one of the commonest fungus diseases encountered on plants growing in humid areas. It produces millions of spores (grey masses) at the end of branched conidiophores (grey filaments). The spores are easily dislodged, carrying the infection from plant to plant rapidly. Control involves removal of infected plants and regular spraying with fungicides. Magnification: x12 at 35mm size.
