Penicillium sp. spores. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the spores (round structures) of the fungus Penicillium sp. These asexual spores are known as conidia, and are the result of fungal reproduction. Penicillium is a large group of fungi, most of which feed on decaying matter. Some members of Penicillium produce the penicillin antibiotics, and were the original source of these drugs. Magnification unknown.
