Mouldy bread. This mould fungus (white) has spread over the surface of the bread, producing a network of fine filaments (hyphae). It has also produced a mass of spores (green), which may spread to infect other foodstuff. The fungus penetrates the bread, digesting and absorbing nutrients. Various species of fungus are classed as bread moulds.
