Mushrooms on decaying wood. Mushrooms are a type of fungus. The fruiting bodies (yellow) appear above ground and shed reproductive spores. Much of the fungus exists below ground in rotting wood and vegetation, where fungal hyphae (threads) assist decay and decomposition. Photographed in the Amazon rainforest of Brazil.
