Boletus erythropus mushroom on a woodland floor. This common fungus' habitat is coniferous, broad- leaved and mixed woodland from late summer into autumn. Not to be confused with the similar, but poisonous Boletus lurida, this fungus is edible - but only when cooked. Its large cap can grow to a diameter of 20 centimetres.
