Jew's ear fungus (Auricularia auricula-judae). This edible, ear-shaped fungus is gelatinous when fresh but dries to become hard and horny. Its outer surface is covered with minute, downy, greyish hairs. It is found on the branches of trees such as the elder throughout the year.
