Yeast (Saccharomyces pombe) dividing, light micrograph using differential interference contrast illumination. This is a single-celled fungus, the cells of which are normally round. During division, they elongate, the genetic material moving to opposite sides of the cell, before the cell divides into two copies of its parents. Magnification: x1100 when printed 10cm wide.
