Photograph of the fungus Penicillium sp. growing on the surface of an orange. There are over 100 species of penicillin fungus, two of which are known to cause decay of citrus fruits, Penicillium italicum & P. digitatum. Penicillin fungus is ubiquitous, growing wherever spoilage material is available.
