Food spoilage. Three rotting apples covered with mould. The centre apple is almost totally decayed. Mould on fruit originates as fungal spores which settle on damaged areas of the skin of the fruit. The spores germinate, penetrate into the fruit and produce a mass of growth using the food as nourishment. At least two kinds of mould are visible here.
