Caption

Mouldy bread. This mould fungus (Penicillium sp.) consists of a network of filaments (hyphae) known as a mycelium (white). Its numerous reproductive spores (in the green/grey areas) may spread to other food. The mould is penetrating the bread, digesting it and absorbing nutrients.
