Burkburnett oil field. Early 20th Century image across the oil wells of Burkburnett, Texas, USA, showing the large number of houses and other accommodations erected around the oil field, and the rail-road running through the middle. In 1912 oil was discovered west of the town, attracting thousands to the area. By 1918 approximately twenty-thousand people had settled around the oilfield. Photographed circa 1919.
