Evgeny Lifshitz (1915-1985, left)and Lev Landau (1908-1968, right), Soviet physicists. Lifshitz and Landau co-authored a ten volume series of textbooks titled 'Course of Theoretical Physics'. The series gave a graduate level introduction to the entire field of physics and is still in use today. Landau made important contributions to quantum mechanics, diamagnetism, superconductivity and plasma physics. In 1962 he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on superfluidity and liquid helium. Restrictions:.
