Cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii), coloured scanning electron microcgraph (SEM). The body is covered in powdery wax secretions. This aphid is a pest throughout most of the world, infesting cotton and many other plants. Adults and nymphs congregate on the lower surface of the host's leaves and extract the plant sap. Heavily infested plants suffer serious damage and may even die.
