Caption

Copper engraving by Le Keux after painting by I.A. Bell with hand colouring entitled "Christs College 1838". Charles Darwin was a theology student of this Cambridge college from 1828-1831 and viewed it as a formative period for him in every way. His interests veered towards natural history, and through his friend and tutor John Stevens Henslow he was proposed as a gentleman's companion to Captain Fitzroy on the Beagle Voyage.
