Caption

A metalmark moth, family Choreutidae, genus Tortyra, sipping sweat in order to obtain salts and minerals. Choreutid moths are day fliers and little known. In appearance they seem to be covered with tiny metallic sequins that sparkle in the sunlight. Their relationships to other moths are still not understood. They are a neotropical group, with species ranging as far north as southern FL. This specimen was photographed in Amazonian Peru.
